Hi everyone! Look below for reviews of what we did on Monday.

Beginning Orchestra

In the Beginning Orchestra, we learned the parts of the instrument (found on page 2 of the Essential Elements book). We then learned the string names and how to hold the instrument (found on page 3). Students should practice the music on pages 4 and 5, which use open strings and quarter notes and quarter rests. Next week we will introduce the bow!

Intermediate Orchestra

In the Intermediate Orchestra, we began by learning how to tune our instruments using Snark tuners. From here on out, students should attempt to tune their own instruments once they enter the classroom. We then reviewed the D major scale (p. 19, #64) and then learned about 8th notes and played Pepperoni Pizza (p. 20, #67) and Hot Cross Buns (p. 20, #70). We then learned the first 6 measures of one of our songs—First Scale March. We will do some of our other songs next week.

Advanced Orchestra

In the Advanced Orchestra, we started by listening to each of our new songs. We learned the first 4 measures of Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, the theme of Gauntlet, the first 12 measures of Conquistador, and the theme to In the Hall of the Mountain King. Students should start practicing as far as they can into these songs this week.
