Hi everyone! Look below to see what we did in the Orchestra Academy on Monday. Please note that we will not have Orchestra Academy on Monday, March 23rd due to Spring Break.
In the Beginning Orchestra, we reviewed the A ladder and played the music on pages 10 and 11. We then did some bow exercises and started learning the music on pages 12 and 13. Students should practice the songs on pages 12 and 13 this week and really work on memorizing the note names. This will be our last week having the name of the note inside of the note! Here are some links that can be great note name practice:
In the Intermediate Orchestra, we started by learning the first 16 measures of Impulse. This week, students should try to practice through to measure 33 in this song.
We then worked on Dragon Slayer and had to review a lot of what we had already learned. Next week I am hoping to get to measure 37 so students should at least practice to that point.
We didn’t have time to practice First Scale March so we will start with that next week. We did work on First Finger Pachelbel but the violins are still definitely struggling with measures 21 through 28 and they should continue to practice that.
Many students didn’t realize that I have made practice videos for their songs that they can use to practice at home. Use the links above to access the videos. Students can also subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYp8nicuyG4zjefyz5KaAew?view_as=subscriber
In the Advanced Orchestra, we started with In the Hall of the Mountain King. We did some fixing from the beginning to 51 and only briefly reviewed the music past 51. I am hoping to get more of it done this next week.
We then moved on to Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. We got to about 45 before we stopped. Please try to practice this whole song so that we can get through it more.
We then worked on Conquistador and got to about 73. Students should review 73 to the D.S. so that we can learn it together next week.
We finished with Gauntlet and got to about 56. Students should review 56 to 80 at home this week so that we can learn it next week.
