Hi everyone! Look below for your orchestra’s review. Happy practicing!

Beginning Orchestra

We have a playing check-in coming up! Starting next week, February 12th, students will record themselves playing between A and B in The Salamander Samba. I will bring my laptop for them to record in a practice room during class, or they can email me a video before Saturday, March 2nd. This shouldn’t be something that causes a lot of stress — this is more an opportunity for me to see how students are doing and to make sure that everyone is understanding the material.

This week in our rehearsal, we went over The Salamander Samba from the beginning until letter C. We also reviewed the bow grip, did some bow exercises, and then rehearsed On A Swing from the beginning until measure 29. We are getting really close on these open string songs, which means that we will be using fingers soon!

At the end of class, I also taught the students how to tune their own instruments with a Snark tuner. We will be working on this each week from here on, and I will have some that students can use. If you are interested in purchasing a Snark tuner, you can follow this link: https://a.co/d/entFDWe

Intermediate Orchestra

We are having some playing check-ins starting next week! Our playing check-ins will focus on the piece Icicles and will be measures 17-25 for bass and cello and measures 25-33 for violins and violas. I will bring my laptop for them to record in a practice room during class, or they can email me a video before Saturday, March 2nd. This shouldn’t be something that causes a lot of stress — this is more an opportunity for me to see how students are doing and to make sure that everyone is understanding the material.

Here’s what we covered in rehearsal:

  • Icicles — beginning until measure 33. You should be able to practice the whole thing now!
  • Guldfaxe — We worked on the beginning until measure 19. Please practice at least this far at home, and we will add more next week.
  • Abandoned Funhouse — We played from the beginning until around measure 41. You should be able to practice all of this now, too!
  • Momentous — We didn’t get to it this week, but you should practice from the beginning until 25.

Advanced Orchestra

We are having some playing check-ins starting next week! Our playing check-ins will focus on the piece Turbulence and and everyone will play from measure 33 to measure 40. I will bring my laptop for them to record in a practice room during class, or they can email me a video before Saturday, March 2nd. This shouldn’t be something that causes a lot of stress — this is more an opportunity for me to see how students are doing and to make sure that everyone is understanding the material.

Here’s what we did in rehearsal:

  • Turbulence — beginning until about measure 48. You shoudl be able to practice the whole thing now!
