We had a great rehearsal on Monday!

Look below to find out what each orchestra worked on.

Beginning Orchestra

  • Royal Promenade — We worked on each section’s “pattern” for this piece. Your pattern is found between measures 5 and 21. Each section has its own 4 measure pattern that they repeat in this section. Make sure you learn your section’s pattern this week! Once we know it, we will know more than half of the song!
  • The Salamander Samba — This week, we reviewed the music at letter A and then learned the music at letter B. You should now know all of your music up until letter C.
  • Mythos — We learned the first 6 measures of Mythos. Please try to practice at least the first 15 measures of Mythos, as I’m hoping to get that far next week.
  • We did not practice William Tell this week.

Intermediate Orchestra

  • Raindrop Serenade — This week, we worked on measures 13 through 21, especially for the violins, since they have to play notes on their E string. Violas, please practice from measure 21 to 29 because this is where you get the melody. We did this very briefly in rehearsal, but I want to practice it more next week.
  • Dragonhunter — We learned until measure 18 in Dragonhunter. Please try to learn to measure 38 this week if you can!
  • Funky Fiddles — We worked on the violin part at measure 25 this week, since they once again need to use their E string. This time, they have a low 2, which means that your finger will NOT go where your 2nd tape is — it will be close to the 1st finger. We will keep working on this skill next week. Please practice through to measure 41 if you can. If you are ready to go further, know that violins and violas are supposed to play all of the notes from measure 41 to 73 — these are called double stops and are used in fiddle music quite a bit. One of the notes is always an open string, so just try to focus on learning the notes that move and then angling your bow so that you hit two strings.
  • We did not practice William Tell this week.

Advanced Orchestra

  • Mantras — We are no longer going to play Eat My Rosin Dust — I decided it would just be too much work. Instead, I passed out a new song this week called Mantras. It has similar skills to Eat My Rosin Dust and is still difficult, just not quite as bad. This week, we learned from the beginning until measure 16. Try to look at your music through to measure 52 if you can.
  • William Tell — This is starting to come together! This week we learned through to letter E. At letter E, we will have small groups play those notes, which I will choose next week. Please notice that the parts we have learned so far are repeated at letter F, J, K, and M, so in reality we know quite a bit of this piece already! I also handed out the regular 2nd violin part to those I gave the “Easy Violin” part — however, I forgot to help out with fingerings so I will do that this week and I’ll have some parts with fingering in them next week.
  • Storm — We only briefly ran through Storm, and got to about measure 51. I would like to learn from measure 51 to 71 next week, so please look through it this week.
  • We did not practice Dramatic Essay this week.

As always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, and see you next week!
